Deconstructing a Prevost - davidbrady - 01-23-2016 19:48

Hi Guys,

I was paging thru my H3 manuals trying to get a feel for some of the tier suppliers Prevost uses. I put together this:

1) Disk brakes are Knorr-Bremse SB7000 which is owned by Spicer.

2) Drive axle and differential is by Meritor.

3) Air brake valves are by Bendix.

4) ABS brain is Meritor Wabco.

5) Steering gearbox is ZF-Servocom.

6) Air springs are by Goodyear.

7) Drive and tag axle shocks are Monroe. Steer axle shocks are Sachs.

8) Height control valves are by Barksdale.

9) IFS unitized hubs are by GKN/Kirkstall.

10) Suspension bushings are by Prevost. There's no mention of who did the IFS control arms, the uprights, or the radius arms for the tag and drive axles; I think they're all by Prevost/Volvo.

It's number (10) that I'd like to learn more about. Are the suspension components (control arms and such) truly done by Prevost? Can anyone shed any light on this? Thanks!

I'm snowed in here so I've been searching the parts DVD! LOL! Smile

Looks like my unitized hubs are by Timken, and I think they're maintenance free.

The IFS has a manufacturers number of NDIFS 80P, which turns out to be Dana Spicer. (see attached).

All the info is over here on the Prevost Techpub site.


The Prevost Techpubs reveal that the tie rods and drag link and associated tie-rod ends and steering linkage appear to be made by ZF-Lemforder.

Also, the end bushings and mounts for the suspension control arms and radius arms appear to be made by ZF-Lemforder.

Still trying to figure out who actually produces the drive/tag radius arms and axle carriers, and the IFS A-arms. My guess is ZF-Lemforder.

Thanks to Hish, it's now confirmed that the Prevost IFS is specially made for Prevost by Dana Spicer. Portions such as the hubs on my 18K lb IFS coach are done by Timken whereas on the 16.5K lb IFS they're done by GKN.

Note that the IFS on my XL2 is rated at 17,200#s (not 16,000#s).

Thanks for clearing that up Chuck. I was never quite sure if the first gen IFS was 16.5K lb or 17.2K lb. You put that to rest. Smile
